The most basic mathematical description of drug distribution and elimination is the one-compartment model.... One-compartment models utilize a single central compartment and assume that equilibrium is rapidly/instantaneously achieved with tissues. Although the drug in the body, as a single "compartment, "cannot be measured, an assumption is made that the changes in blood(or other sampling compartment) reflect a proportional change in tissue drug concentrations. The rate of drug elimination from the central compartment in a one-compartment model is a first-order process.... In the case of a one-compartment model, [clearance] is linear... regardless of the mechanism of clearance.

Muscarinic acetylcholine receptors are members of rhodopsin-like G-protein coupled receptor family. They play several important roles; they mediate many of the effects of acetylcholine in the central and peripheral nervous system and modulate a variety of physiological functions, such as airway, eye and intestinal smooth muscle contraction, heart rate and glandular secretions. The receptors have a widespread tissue distribution and are a major drug target in human disease. They may be effective therapeutic targets in Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Water is a critical component of all living cells. Interestingly, tissue membranes show a great degree of water permeability. Mammalian red cells, renal proximal tubules, and descending thin limb of Henle are extraordinarily permeable to water. Water crosses hydrophobic plasma membranes either by simple diffusion or through a facilitative transport mechanism mediated by special proteins "aquaporins". Over the last decade, genes for several members of aquaporin family have been cloned, expressed, and their distribution studied in many tissues.

Table I shows some example measurement made from corrosion casts from rat heart and hamster lung under several different conditions..... While the primary application of vascular corrosion casting has been and likely will remain in the elucidation of the 3-dimensional distribution of vessels in tissue and organs, high quality casts also yield valuable quantitative information about that vasculature.... the corrosion casting method [can] be used to describe or measure the internal volume of any hollow or porous structure or material as long as methods are available to remove the surrounding material and leave the cast intact.

The Biotechnology Mammalian Tissue Culture facility has been conceived for research on cell and tissue culture. It will be essential in furthering our understanding of the influence of the cell microenvironment on growth and differentiation. The core of the system will provide robust control of concentration gradients and of mechanical forces thanks to the integration of fluid distribution tools, microsensors, and microactuators. The emphasis is put on the mimicking of organotypical conditions and on the acquisition of data to be used for guided tissue development and differentiation in both space and terrestrial conditions. In addition to this core cultivation subunit, a powerful diagnostics subunit allows for dedicated tools adapted to the tissue undergoing testing. The whole concept is modular in order to support upgrading and adaptation to the requirements of the experimental programme.

Le produit de l'aspiration était caractérisé par des cellules cancéreuses avec une différenciation apocrine et une importante atypie cellulaire prolongée à de nombreux lymphocytes et plasmocytes. Bien que l'immunocoloration a été de peu de secours dans ce cas, les résultats de la microscopie électronique ont montré de nombreuses cellules cancéreuses du type apocrine dans la tumeur.
