[A] blue screen will require twice as much light as [a] green screen, often a whole f-stop. But because of this difference in luminosity, blue also results in less color spill. Blue screen is also ideal for replicating darker or nighttime conditions.

The blue screen method was developed in the 1930s at RKO Radio Pictures.... Before digital chroma keying, bluescreening was accomplished using film. The camera color negative was printed onto high-contrast black and white film, using either a filter or the color sensitivity of the black and white film to limit it to the blue channel. Assuming this film was a negative it produced clear where the bluescreen was [and] black elsewhere... The end result was a clear background with an opaque shape of the subject in the middle.

Cortland is a type of apple. After the many attributes of McIntosh were discovered, plant breeders began crossing it with other varieties to enhance its traits. One of the earliest was the Cortland, combined with the Ben Davis variety. Its flavor is sweet compared to McIntosh, and it has a flush of crimson against a pale yellow background sprinkled with short, dark red stripes and gray-green dots. Cortland has very white flesh and is an excellent dessert apple.

Any of several processes to remove the natural and artificial impurities in fabrics to obtain clear whites for finished fabric or in preparation for dyeing and finishing.

Bleaching is one of the most usual and important among the finishing processed. It has for its object the whitening or decolorizing of the textile fiber to which it is applied. Fibers, as they come from the plant, from the back of the sheep, or from the cocoon, are usually somewhat colored or stained. Some of them, like tussah silk or Egyptian cotton, are highly colored. This natural coloring of the fiber may be undesirable in many fabrics; hence, bleaching is employed to clear the fiber of this color. Again, most fibers accumulate stains of various kinds during the early processes of manufacture as, for example, in the spinning and weaving. This discoloration cannot be entirely removed by simple washing; hence, the bleaching process is applied to clear the fabric. In like manner, when the calicoes or other prints come from the printers, the white background between the colored figures may be soiled, spotted, or otherwise discolored; again, a light bleach is applied, but not enough appreciably to injure the color in the figures.

The flag, generally designated by the name of the fleurdelisé flag, bears a white cross on a sky-blue background with a white fleur-de-lis positioned in the centre of each of the quarters formed by the cross. The proportions of the flag are six units wide by four units deep with the cross being one unit in both middle directions. The fleurdelisé flag was adopted as the official flag of the Province of Quebec on January 21, 1948 by an order of the Lieutenant-Governor in Council and by an act assented to on March 9, 1950.
