La création du projet européen NARCISSE a permis, d'une part, de mettre en place un système documentaire intégrant un thésaurus traduit en trois langues dont une partie du vocabulaire l'est en quinze langues. D'autre part, la construction d'un numériseur opérant en très haute résolution et sur de grandes surfaces va permettre de constituer une banque d'image scientifiques et techniques. La numérisation des photographies et radiographies permet également leur traitement par informatique renouvelant de plus leur interprétation.
