A binary-cycle geothermal plant employs a closed-loop heat exchange system in which the heat of geothermal fluid (primary fluid) is transferred to a lower-boiling heat transfer fluid (secondary fluid) that is thereby vaporized and used to drive a turbine or generator set. The cooling water filling the reactor vessel, heated by the core, gets hotter and its pressure rises. A relief valve at the top of the pressurizer tank - the so-called pilot-operated relief valve (PORV) - opens automatically, steam escapes. [La centrale Three Mile Island-2 et sa conception] Le pressuriseur du circuit primaire était placé sur la branche chaude de la boucle A; une vanne de décharge électropneumatique(PORV : Pilot-Operated Relief Valve) était installée dans la partie supérieure du pressuriseur.
