The National Anthem of Canada. -- "O Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free! From far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. God keep our land glorious and free! O Canada, we stand on guard for thee." O Canada, we stand on guard for thee." -- "O Canada" was proclaimed Canada's national anthem on July 1, 1980, one hundred years after it was first sung on June 24, 1880. The music was composed by Calixa Lavallée, a well-known composer; French lyrics to accompany the music were written by Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. The song gained steadily in popularity. Many English versions have appeared over the years. The version on which the official English lyrics are based was written in 1908 by Mr. Justice Robert Stanley Weir. The official English version includes changes recommended in 1968 by a Special Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Commons. Le Bureau de la traduction du gouvernement du Canada recommande d’employer le «O» avec l’accent circonflexe. En français, l’interjection «ô» sert à introduire des invocations, à interpeller ou à exprimer poétiquement un sentiment intense. La musique est l'œuvre de Calixa Lavallée, célèbre compositeur, et les paroles françaises sont de sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. Le chant est devenu de plus en plus populaire et, au cours des années, il en est apparu de nombreuses versions anglaises. La version anglaise officielle est basée sur celle composée en 1908 par le juge Robert Stanley Weir. "The Star-Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of the United States of America. The lyrics come from "Defence of Fort McHenry", a poem written in 1814 by the 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet, Francis Scott Key, after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British Royal Navy ships in Chesapeake Bay during the Battle of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812.  1, fiche 3, Anglais, - The%20Star%2DSpangled%20Banner

The Star-Spangled Banner(La Bannière étoilée) est un poème écrit en 1814 par Francis Scott Key et qui constitue à présent l'hymne national des États-Unis. Joué sur l'air de To Anacreon in Heaven [...] ce poème est devenu bien connu en tant que chant patriotique américain.
