A group of Athapascan tribes in Alaska and British North America, inhabitating the region on the Yukon and its tributaries above Nuklukayet, the Peel r. basin, and the lower Mackenzie valley.

Loucheux. The Kutchin speaking the dialect of the Tukkuthkutchin. This language, which resembles more nearly the Chipewyan than the intervening Etatchogottine and Kawchogottine dialects, is spoken by the Tatlitkutchin, Vuntakutchin, Kutchakutchin, and Trosikkutchin (...) The term was extended by the Hudson's Bay Co men to include all the Kutchin, though the Tukkuthkutchin, or they and the Tatlitkutchin together constituted the Loucheux proper.

Le Programme d’accès des Autochtones du Nord à la radiotélédiffusion(PAANR) offre une aide financière aux organisations autochtones sans but lucratif qui veulent présenter une programmation radiophonique ou télévisée visant à rejoindre des auditoires autochtones du Nord. Cette programmation peut comprendre des bulletins de nouvelles ainsi que des émissions récréatives, culturelles et éducatives diffusées principalement dans la langue autochtone de la région.

[Index that] measures language continuity, or vitality, by comparing the number of those who speak a given language at home to the number of those who learned that language as their mother tongue.

Much of the drop in the target student population can be attributed to non-transmission of the language at home. With a language continuity index of about 70% since 1971, the target student population is expected to drop even more sharply. The school definitely plays a role in this transmission and, clearly, measures that ensure the transmission of French must continue to be implemented, because the right to instruction in French will be lost if French is no longer used as a mother tongue by the target student population or as a language of instruction.

In Ontario, as revealed by the index of continuity, only 63% of the French mother tongue population speaks that language at home.

To participate in KIDS FROM KANATA, a teacher needs a computer and modem with access to a telephone line. Participants log in to the Canadian national computer packet network, Datapac, to gain access to the SciLink host computer in Toronto. Most cities in Canada have local phone access to Datapac. SciLink is also available via the Internet, a network of networks connecting educational institutions around the world. Participating schools are organized into triads with a wide geographic dispersion, with each triad hosted by a Native, Aboriginal or First Nations classroom. Students interactively conduct research about their other two triad members under headings such as Health, Environment, Language and Culture, History, Education, Economics, and Politics. As issues are discovered and developed in their own and buddy sites, students present points of view and conduct exercises in conflict resolution to develop solutions based on understanding rather than argument.

Pour participer au programme Les enfants du Kanata, un enseignant doit avoir accès à un ordinateur doté d’un modem et à une ligne téléphonique.
