L'Institut Géographique National est un organisme chargé de la couverture cartographique de la France. Elle s’est lancée dans l'élaboration d’une base de données topographiques, la BDTopo [MD], qui reprend les thèmes de la carte au 1 : 25000. SocetSet est un logiciel de photogrammétrie numérique. Il permet entre autres l'orientation d’images, l'extraction automatique de modèles numériques de terrain, la création d’orthophotos. Méthode : on peut la décomposer en deux parties : le traitement des données raster(images) de la BDTopo [MD] permet l'obtention d’un modèle du terrain sans sursol, puis d’orthophotos. Le traitement des données vecteur : les routes et les surfaces hydrographiques contenues dans la base de données servent à améliorer la qualité du MNT.
