Pour pallier aux limites de l'immunothérapie par voie sous-cutanée, l'immunothérapie par voie orale s’est développée. Alors, les allergènes auxquels le patient est sensible sont administrés par voie buccale : cette approche est plus simple d’administration(pas d’injection, donc plus accessible aux plus jeunes), plus sécure(risque de réaction systémique moindre) et en conséquence plus conviviale(doses prises à domicile, évitant ainsi visites à la clinique, perte de temps et revenus).
