The Naden Band of Maritime Forces Pacific, the Canadian Navy's Pacific Fleet Band, was established in 1997 and follows a heritage of naval music that is founded in the musicians that sailed with Royal Navy ships to Esquimalt in the mid-1800's. In 1979, on the 50th anniversary of the Privy Council's historic decision, the Government of Canada instituted the Governor General's Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case to recognize outstanding contributions to the quality of life of women in Canada.
