GRAS, le récepteur du système mondial de navigation par satellite destiné au sondage de l'atmosphère, est un instrument inédit en cours de réalisation par l'Agence spatiale européenne et destiné à être embarqué sur les satellites EPS d’EUMETSAT. Il recevra des signaux radios émis par des satellites de navigation, après un trajet tangentiel dans l'atmosphère. Un traitement de la dérive Doppler de la fréquence des signaux reçus permettra d’établir des profils de température et d’humidité, d’une grande précision et d’une résolution verticale élevée, en assurant une couverture globale. Le sondeur infrarouge Iasi(Interféromètre Atmosphérique pour le Sondage Infrarouge) est un instrument de la charge utile du programme Metop(satellites météorologiques européens en orbite polaire) de l'Agence Spatiale Européenne et de Eumetsat, dont le premier modèle devrait être lancé en 2003. Le Radiomètre Avancé à Très Haute Résolution(AVHRR) est un instrument imageur multi-spectral qui s’est montré précieux dans de nombreuses applications de toutes sortes dans le monde entier. AVHRR/3 est la dernière version embarquée à partir de NOAA-K sur les satellites américains et sur les satellites Metop d’EUMETSAT. Depuis ces satellites, il fournira une vue globale des nuages deux fois par jour, ainsi que de fréquentes images des surfaces terrestres et maritimes. EUMETSAT is an intergovernmental organisation created through an international convention agreed by 17 European Member States: Austria, Belgium, Danemark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
