El sistema de construcción solar pasiva se está convirtiendo cada vez más en un estilo arquitectónico independiente, que está formalmente en la tradición del modernismo clásico y sus corrientes y recepciones, en la subordinación del diseño bajo lo apropiado (la forma sigue la función, la escultura permanece en el fondo). En el diseño de edificios solares pasivos, ventanas, paredes y pisos están hechos para recolectar, almacenar, reflejar y distribuir energía solar en forma de calor en el invierno y rechazar el calor solar en el verano.
