The concept of Sustainable Chemistry represents an area of innovation, which not only preserves resources, but also stands for a development process in the chemical industry. Sustainable Chemistry aspirates to raise the stake of less dangerous chemicals as well as production of environmentally high-quality products from preferable renewable resources. This obviates emissions and excessive consumption of resources like energy and materials. The principle of Sustainable Chemistry comprises important elements in areas like environment, economy and society. Sustainable Chemistry deals with the whole life of intrinsic safe chemicals and products, including their production, processing, use and disposal. Intrinsic safe chemicals and products are characterised by low toxicity to environment and human health and low persistence and accumulation potential. Thereby environment and human health are protected in the first place in the life of chemicals and socio-economic follow-up costs are avoided. Additionally, production of sustainable chemicals and products contributes to economic profit for innovative enterprises and thereby affords an opportunity for competitive advantage compared to production and marketing in old-fashioned concepts. This workshop focuses on the GPS positioning system as a tool for the collection of spatially referenced data, similar to those used by a GIS. The basic concepts of a GPS will be presented. As well, steps and methods required to integrate GPS data with a GIS will be outlined. With the assistance of the GPS/GIS "GIS Mobile" of NovAtel Inc., the presentation will include the following: the definition of data dictionaries: the operation of GPS receivers; the calculation of differential corrections; the calculation of positions; the use of precise clock and precise orbits; the validation of data; cartographic projections; and, the integration of these data with a GIS. Finally, an example of updating the federal government's NTDB, supported by a GPS/GIS, will be features. Cet atelier présentera le système de positionnement GPS comme un outil de collecte de données à référence spatiale telles qu'utilisées par les Systèmes d’Information Géographique(SIG). Les concepts de base du système GPS y seront sommairement présentés. Par la suite, les étapes et méthodes requises pour intégrer les données GPS au SIG seront détaillées. Entre autres, à l'aide du système GPS/SIG «GIS Mobile» de NovAtel Inc., la définition des dictionnaires de données, l'opération des récepteurs GPS, le calcul des corrections différentielles, le calcul de positions, l'utilisation des orbites et des horloges précises, la validation des données, les projections cartographiques ainsi que l'intégration de ces données au SIG seront présentés. Finalement, un exemple concret de mise à jour de la BNDT du gouvernement fédéral à l'aide d’un système GPS/SIG sera exposé.
