The most popular form of cut for both diamonds and coloured stones totaling 58 facets: 1 table, 8 bezel facets, 8 star facets, and 16 upper girdle facets above the girdle (on the crown) and 8 pavilion facets, 16 lower girdle facets, and 1 culet below the girdle (on the pavilion).

The most common brilliant cut is the standard round brilliant; modifications include the marquise, half-moon, pear shape, heart shape, oval, cushion, and antique cushion brilliant cuts.
