A Duma is any of various representative assemblies in modern Russia and Russian history. The State Duma in the Russian Empire and Russian Federation corresponds to the lower house of the parliament. It is also the term for a council to early Russian rulers (Boyar Duma), as well as for city councils in Imperial Russia (Municipal dumas), and city and regional legislative bodies in the Russian Federation. The term comes from the Russian word (dumat), "to think" or "to consider". Boyar Duma was an advisory council to the grand princes and tsars of Muscovy. The Duma was discontinued by Peter the Great, who transferred its functions to the Governing Senate in 1721. However, the Duma would be re-introduced later in Russian history by Tsar Nicholas II, in the pre-Revolutionary period (1905), with the aid of his many advisors such as Pyotr Stolypin, amongst others.  1, fiche 4, Anglais, - Duma

La Douma est le nom de la chambre basse du parlement en Russie. Pour la Fédération de Russie on parle plus précisément de Douma d’État, pour la différencier des Doumas régionales ou de la Douma impériale. Le terme douma, signifie, «penser». Historiquement, la Douma était le conseil consultatif des grands princes de la Russie kiévienne et des tsars de la Russie impériale. La première Douma d’État de l'Empire russe fut convoquée le 27 avril 1906(10 mai dans le calendrier grégorien) au Palais de Tauride à Saint-Pétersbourg par le tsar Nicolas II. Cette Douma fut instaurée à la suite des événements de 1905, et en particulier du dimanche rouge. The Glorious Revolution was the overthrow of James II of England in 1688 by a union of Parliamentarians and the Dutch stadholder William III of Orange-Nassau (William of Orange). It is sometimes called the Bloodless Revolution, although there was fighting and loss of life in Ireland and Scotland; many modern historians prefer the more neutral alternative Revolution of 1688. The Revolution is closely tied in with the events of the Nine Years War on the continent of Europe, and may be seen as the last successful invasion of England. It can be argued that James' overthrow began modern English parliamentary democracy; never again would the monarch hold absolute power. La Glorieuse Révolution d’Angleterre(en anglais Glorious Revolution, aussi appelé Seconde Révolution anglaise par certains historiens français, ou encore «bloodless revolution») fut une révolution pacifique(1688-1689) qui renversa le roi Jacques II(Jacques II d’Écosse) et provoqua l'avènement de la fille de celui-ci, Marie II et de son époux, Guillaume III, prince d’Orange. The War of the Grand Alliance, also known as the War of the League of Augsburg, the Nine Years War, the Orleans War, the War of the Palatinian Succession, and the War of the English Succession, was a major war fought in Europe and Colonial America from 1688 to 1697, between France and the League of Augsburg - which, by 1689, was known as the "Grand Alliance" when England and others joined. La guerre de la ligue d’Augsbourg, également appelée guerre de Neuf Ans, eut lieu de 1688 à 1697. Elle opposa la France sous la monarchie absolue de Louis XIV, alliée au Danemark et à l'empire Ottoman, à une grande coalition, d’abord défensive. Celle-ci comptait principalement l'Angleterre sous la monarchie constitutionnelle de Guillaume III d’Angleterre, l'empereur d’Allemagne et plusieurs Électeurs, l'Espagne, les Pays-Bas, la Savoie et la Suède.
