Dans le domaine de la sécurité routière, Wilde développe la théorie du risque homéostatique. Le sujet adapte son comportement en fonction de son niveau de risque préférentiel ou cible, c'est-à-dire le niveau de risque que le sujet pense pouvoir prendre.
