Le signal reçu du nadir est une forte réflexion spéculaire de cibles situées à très faible distance en portée. Il en résulte sur l'image des tons très brillants. À cause de la compression des impulsions, le signal puissant se restreint à un petit nombre de pixels en portée. Sur les images à faisceau unique, les ambiguïtés de nadir peuvent apparaître près de la bordure des images en mode large, obtenues en temps réel ou au centre des images. Dans cette opération, les opportunités d'attraper une petite caractéristique spécifique digne d'intérêt sont rares pour ne pas dire inexistantes.

The fields of view for attached payloads are dependent on payload type and location, with full truss-site payloads having greater latitude in viewing than ExPA payloads. Viewing in the zenith direction for payloads on nadir-pointing truss sites is not generally possible and vice versa. Viewfields for ExPA payloads depend on the payload's position on the pallet and the relative height of adjacent payloads. Positions provide various combinations of viewing in the nadir, zenith, ram, wake, and Earth-limb directions.
