Déchets à vie courte : le stockage en surface et subsurface. L'option principale retenue en France, pour les déchets de la catégorie A, dont l'essentiel de la radioactivité aura disparu dans 300 ans, est leur stockage en surface, ou à faible profondeur. Leur isolement est assuré par des barrières artificielles les protégeant notamment contre les eaux de ruissellement et souterraines.
