Fredericton, Frederictoner, Frederictonian

A native or resident of New Brunswick’s capital city is called a Frederictonian (or, more rarely, a Frederictoner).

While the demonyms Frederictonian and Frederictoner are seen in newspapers and magazines, they are often replaced in more formal writing by native, resident or inhabitant of Fredericton, or some similar phrase.

  • Ginette is a homesick Frederictonian (or native of Fredericton) trying to make a new life on the shores of Lake Winnipeg.

Fredericton is commonly used as a modifier.

  • Fredericton residents take advantage of the city’s nature trails.

Frederictonian is also occasionally used as a modifier, although Frederictoner is not.

  • The program was hosted by a Frederictonian singer and songwriter.
