La coconisation est utilisée pour la protection, pendant un stockage prolongé, du matériel civil ou militaire non en service, de marchandises en dépôt ou de machines destinées à être expédiées par mer. Elle consiste à projeter, sur une enveloppe de tissu à très larges mailles entourant l'objet, des fibres de matière thermoplastique à l'aide d'un pistolet à air comprimé.
