Casting steel in ingots is very labor-intensive. Workers set up the molds, use a casting crane to fill each mold, and strip off the molds after solidification.

Après affinage, l'acier est coulé en poche, laquelle est reprise sur la grue de coulée par un pont roulant permettant la coulée en lingotières. Les lingotières sont placées sur des cars à lingots. Les lingots, pesant de 4 à 6 tonnes sont démoulés sur deux chantiers par 4 ponts strippers. Ces lingots sont ensuite dirigés vers les laminoirs.
