Régénération de la liqueur au sulfate. Au bas de la chambre de combustion se trouve le creuset (hearth), où l'on recueille les sels de sodium en fusion (molten smelt). Ces sels sont immédiatement dissous dans une cuve pour donner la liqueur verte (green liquor), qui est essentiellement une solution de carbonate de sodium et de sulfure de sodium. Après décantation dans un clarificateur (clarifier, thickener), la liqueur verte passe dans un bac extincteur de chaux (slaker, slaker-classifier), où on la mélange à de la chaux vive (CaO) pour convertir le carbonate de sodium en hydroxyde de sodium (caustification). Il se produit en fait deux réactions : la chaux vive subit d'abord une hydratation, ou extinction (slaking), en réagissant sur l'eau, puis la chaux hydratée, ou chaux éteinte, réagit sur le carbonate de sodium (soda ash) pour donner de l'hydroxyde de sodium, ou soude (caustic soda), et du carbonate de calcium. 2, record 2, French, - extinction%20de%20la%20chaux
