A blisterlike elevation of the corneal epithelium resulting from excess flid in the stroma and epithelium because of loss of the dehydrating mechanism of the cornea and usually caused by damage to the endothelial cells.

OBS

A painful condition of the cornea, sometimes arising as a complication of cataract surgery or glaucoma. A bubble-like elevation appears if the corneal edema persists.

OBS

[...] Les bulles liquidiennes crèvent à la surface de la cornée, ce qui provoque des douleurs et une diminution de la vision. Les bulles de l'œdème du stroma cornéen sont visibles à l'examen. [La kératopathie bulleuse] s’observe parfois après des interventions intraoculaires(p. ex. chirurgie de la cataracte) lorsque l'agression mécanique entrave le processus de détumescence cornéenne.

OBS

Le terme kératite a été entendu, à tort, à presque toutes les affections cornéennes. Il serait souhaitable d’en réserver l’usage aux seules atteintes cornéennes de nature inflammatoire, afin d’en bien distinguer les kératopathies [...] et les dystrophies et dégénérescence cornéennes.

A degenerative condition in which a horizontal, band-shaped, gray opacity develops axially from the limbus at the level of the Bowman's membrane into the exposed part of the cornea in the palpebral aperture. It occurs in hypercalcemia, chronic iridocyclitis, and Still's disease.

Dégénérescence caractérisée par le développement d’une opacité grise superficielle non homogène de la cornée. Au début, deux plages gris tres apparaissent à la périphérie de la cornée. Leurs bords axiaux, irréguliers, progressent l'un vers l'autre pour former une bande continue siégeant au contact de la membrane de Bowman, dans l'aire de la fente palpébrale. Cette dégénérescence apparaît habituellement sur des yeux pathologiques, atteints d’uvéite chronique(la kératopathie en bandelette complique en particulier les iridocyclites de la polyarthrite rhumatoïde de l'enfant ou maladie de Chauffard-Still).

OBS

Plusieurs auteurs utilisent à tort le terme "kératite en bandelette".

The cornea remained damaged because of severe, irregular thinning. The cause of the condition could not be determined.

I describe concentrations of reflected solar radiation (albedo) found at the usual sites of various conditions associated with exposure to the sun - pterygium, pinguecula, climatic droplet keratopathy and cataract and eyelid malignancy. (In Ophthalmic surgery, 21 (1) 60-66, cited in PASCAL data base).

The model was found to be predictive of condition known to be caused by excessive sun exposure : skin elastosis and squamous cell carcinoma, and climatic droplet keratopathy.
