Les «avens d'origine tectonique» constituent une dernière catégorie [...] Il s'agit des fentes plus ou moins béantes (joints de stratification, diaclases ou failles) que des plissements ou des fracturations ont localement ouvertes au sein du calcaire, mais que des circulations hydriques n'ont pratiquement pas retouchées. On en trouve qui sont parallèles aux falaises des canyons et qui résultent d'une sorte de «poussée au vide» de la masse rocheuse; d'autres existent sur les arêtes montagneuses proches de la verticale ou dans l'axe des plis anticlinaux qui dessinent des voûtes ayant tendance à se fendre et s'ouvrir vers le haut.
