[...] Dans les dirigeables souples, la forme de la carène est maintenue par la pression intérieure du gaz. Pour remédier aux différences des volumes occupés par le gaz, qui modifieraient la forme du ballon et risqueraient de la rendre flasque, la pression est maintenue par un ou plusieurs ballonnets gonflés au moyen d'un ventilateur. Par ailleurs, des soupapes automatiques ou commandées limitent la pression. La nacelle est réunie à la carène par des câbles de suspension fixés à une ralingue de l'enveloppe. Cette nacelle est une poutre armée en bois ou en métal sur laquelle sont groupés le personnel et les appareils de pilotage (commandes de moteurs, de gouvernail en hauteur et de direction).
