Institution based in Frankfurt [Germany] created by the European Union and constituted on 1st. January 1994 in accordance with the second phase of proposals for economic and monetary union in Europe. It took on the functions of the European Monetary Cooperation Fund (EMCF) and supervises the European Monetary System (EMS), follows up on economic evolution and controls the cooperation and coordination of operations between the central banks of member States.
