On teint d'une coloration donnée un lot auquel on a attribué un numéro; par exemple un lot d'écheveaux de laine à tricoter portant le no 1. On s'assure en teinture que chaque lot no 1 qui se répète soit exactement de la même teinte que le premier lot no 1. C'est ce qu'on appelle «contrôle de la couleur».
