The start zones of avalanches are classified as either alpine (above treeline), treeline or below treeline. The treeline is defined as the elevation band above the dense forests and below the area with very few or no trees. Sans doute parce que l'essentiel de nos pentes sont au-dessus de la limite supérieure des forêts... Quand on parle de la «treeline», on dit plutôt «limite/altitude supérieure/maximale des arbres/forêts», et l'on dirait alors pour «at or below treeline» : «au niveau et sous la limite supérieure des forêts». «Above» serait alors «au-dessus de».
