Many palaeognaths are quite large birds, relying on running speed and vicious kicking to defend themselves... But other paleognaths, like the three spacies of kiwi(Apteryx) living on New Zealand, are small, shy, retiring creatures. Port is a fortified wine. Fortified wines are made by adding a proportion of grape spirit, or brandy, to the wine at some point during the production process.... In the case of port, the addition of the brandy takes place before the wine has finished fermenting. This mouth-puckering feeling is caused by excess tannin or acidity, usually encountered in young red wines. 5, record 27, English, - astringent

The degree of astringency varies considerably according not only to the quantity of the tannin, but to its quality. Geuze is made of 100% Lambic beer which undergoes additional fermentation... The blending of old and young pure Lambic is the traditional way to make Geuze. The skill in producing a good Geuze is in balancing the right young and old Lambics in the right quantities. The right ratio young/old is depending on the maturation degree(end attenuation) of each of them. Once the blend is bottled, it undergoes a secondary fermentation in the bottle(Method Champenoise), creating the unique flavor. After 6 months the Geuze obtains a golden color and a cidery, winey palate; reminiscent, perhaps, of dry vermouth with a more complex and natural flavor. 1, record 45, English, - gueuze

An electropalatograph(also termed palometer) is an instrument that records the timing and location of tongue contact with the hard palate during continuous speech. The technique requires the speaker to wear an artificial palate that is moulded to fit the roof of the mouth. Thousands of restaurants, hotels, bars, and retailers use our products. Our granita machines are just what you need to serve your customers delicious cold treats. Originating in Italy, granita is also called "granizado" in some Spanish-speaking countries, and is sometimes called Italian Ice in the United States. Like ice cream, granita is a cold delight often employed as a desert : a nice cooler for a hot day or an elegant palate cleanser for a fancy meal. Unlike ice crea, granita does not derive from dairy products. It is more often based on fruit juice, vegetable juice, wine, coffee or liqueur with sugar mixed in. Freezing give granita a characteristic rough granular texture. 1, record 58, English, - granita%20machine

Crib-biting and wind-sucking are different varieties of the same vice, which are learned chiefly by young horses. In each case the horse swallows air. A ’crib-biter’ effects this by grasping the edge of the manger or some other convenient fixture with the incisor teeth; it then raises the floor of the mouth; the soft palate is forced open; a swallowing movement occurs; and a gulp of air is passed down the gullet into the stomach. A ’wind-sucker’ achieves the same end, but it does not require a resting-place for the teeth.... Some horses which have been crib-biters learn to wind-suck when remedial measures are taken, and there are some wind-suckers which learn to crib-bite. 2, record 84, English, - crib

1, record 84, French, - tiquer%20%C3%A0%20l%27appui

A second group of marine crocodilians evolved during the Lower Jurassic, probably from teleosaurid ancestors. This was the family of metriorhynchids. They are the most specialized of all the members of crocodilian order, being profoundly modified for an aquatic life. Their kinship to the teleosaurids is evident from their double-concave vertebrae, the structure of their palate and other features of their cranial anatomy. Beyond this, however, the skull is streamlined, the limbs are transformed into paddles and the end of the spine is bent sharply down. 1, record 93, English, - metriorhynchids

1, record 93, French, - M%C3%A9triorhynchid%C3%A9s
