Silicate du groupe des minéraux argileux, appartenant au système cristallin monoclinique, proche de la kaolinite mais contenant un excès de silice par rapport à cette dernière.

OBS

L'anauxite a longtemps été considérée comme un minéral. J.W. Gruner et S.B. Hendricks ont essayé d'interpréter sa structure. Pour J.W. Gruner, il s'agissait d'un minéral de type kaolinique altéré, et il aurait dû en résulter une diminution notable de la densité, ce qui n'est pas le cas. Pour S.B. Hendricks l'anauxite est constituée de feuillets kaoliniques séparés de place en place par deux couches tétraédriques de silice, les tétraèdres étant inversés de manière à ce que leurs sommets soient communs.
