(1998) a television genre consisting of (actual or semi-staged) unscripted footage of people going about their ordinary lives and work. It combines the actuality of the fly-on-the-wall documentary with the developing story-line of the soap opera.

OBS

A usage anticipated in the US in the late 1970s by "docu-soap opera", which denoted a dramatized scripted film of actual events. See also "docudrama".
