Des trappes sont installées à la périphérie de la manche. Elles sont normalement maintenues fermées par des ressorts faiblement tarés. Sous l'effet de la dépression dans la manche due à un débit demandé par le réacteur supérieur aux possibilités offertes par la Section e, les trappes s'ouvrent et la section d'entrée d'air augmente (jusqu'à 30 %). Ces trappes sont donc plein ouvert au décollage puis se referment progressivement au fur et à mesure que la vitesse de translation augmente ou que le régime de rotation diminue.
