For purposes of the HST [harmonized sales tax], certain persons will be deemed to be resident in a particular province in specified circumstances. These rules will be based on the deeming rules contained in subsection 132(1) of the Excise Tax Act. For example, a corporation will be deemed to be resident in a particular province if it is incorporated in that province. In addition, for some purposes, the residence of an individual will be deemed to be the individual's mailing address. Also, a person will be regarded as resident in a particular province if the person has a permanent establishment in that province.
