L'acide fluorhydrique [...] est un liquide fortement associé qui bout à 19,4 °C ; à cette température, la densité de sa vapeur correspond à la formule moléculaire H2F2, mais, quand la température s'élève, cette densité diminue ; avant 100 °C, la molécule a pour formule HF. [...] Grâce à son action sur la silice, l'acide fluorhydrique est employé à la gravure sur verre (fluorographie). Il sert également à enlever le sable adhérent aux métaux moulés. On l'utilise encore à la fabrication des fluorures, dont certains servent à la préparation d'émaux et de verres d'optique.
