duplex : Se dit d'un procédé de coulée permettant d'obtenir un lingot double, dont les deux parties n'ont pas même composition; se dit du métal ainsi obtenu. [...] Pour obtenir le métal duplex on fait une première coulée dans une lingotière spéciale, puis, aussitôt après solidification, on coule au contact du premier lingot la deuxième composition. La partie extérieure correspond au métal le plus dur, et la région interne, au métal le plus résilient et le plus malléable.
