Traitement qui a pour but d'éliminer les gaz nocifs, en premier lieu de l'hydrogène, responsable des flocons dans les grosses pièces de forge. Le traitement consiste essentiellement à placer une poche d'acier liquide dans une enceinte où l'on établit le vide et à l'y maintenir un certain temps (évtl. en additionnant les effets du vide et ceux du barbotage d'un gaz neutre, pour éviter la différence de pression ferrostatique entre le haut et le bas de la poche.)
