The mandate of AFIM is defined as follows: defend and promote the interests of people with fibromyalgia in the Île-de-Montréal region; support its members in their quest for a better quality of life, including information on available resources; break the isolation of people with fibromyalgia; inform the community about the physiological, psychological and social aspects of fibromyalgia syndrome; raise the awareness of those affected, health professionals and social services, as well as the general public to the needs of people with fibromyalgia; to encourage and promote medical research that helps to better understand and treat fibromyalgia.

Le mandat de l'AFIM se définit comme suit : défendre et promouvoir les intérêts des personnes atteintes de fibromyalgie dans la région de l'Île-de-Montréal; soutenir ses membres dans leur recherche d'une meilleure qualité de vie, notamment en les renseignant sur les ressources disponibles; briser l'isolement des personnes souffrant de fibromyalgie; informer la communauté sur les aspects physiologiques, psychologiques et sociaux du syndrome de la fibromyalgie; sensibiliser l'entourage des personnes atteintes, les professionnels de la santé et des services sociaux, ainsi que le grand public aux besoins des personnes atteintes de fibromyalgie; susciter et favoriser les recherches médicales qui permettent de mieux comprendre et traiter la fibromyalgie.
