CONT

An actual case of a confined space hazard from compressed oxygen is this one involving seam-welding containers. During the assembly procedure, a small section of a seam was miswelded. The worker attempting to repair the seam climbed into the tank. After a few seconds inside, the tank became hot and smoky. Oxygen from the torch was used to ventilate the space and because of the oxygen-enriched atmosphere, the oxygen reacted with the oil and grease stains on the clothes.
