For sources of radiation inside the body, personal monitoring is accomplished by direct (in vivo) measurement on the body, or a measurement on material excreted, exhaled or otherwise sampled from the body. It also includes the continuous monitoring of airborne radioactive material, by means of an air sampling device carried by the individual.
