Roche plutonique constituée essentiellement d'orthoclase sodique, de plagioclase sodique et d'augite ainsi qu'un peu de quartz, de biotite, d'apatite et d'oxydes opaques. C'est une variété de syénite.

CONT

Dans les monzonites la proportion de feldspath alcalin et de plagioclase est sensiblement équivalente. L'un ou l'autre de ces deux groupes de feldspaths reste dans la proportion de 1/3 à 2/3 de l'ensemble des feldspaths. Certaines de ces roches sont potassiques; ce sont les monzonites «sensu str.». Certaines sont sodiques; on les nomme «akérites».
