L'expression «s'avérer vrai» est encore critiquée par certains auteurs. Cependant, le verbe «s'avérer» s'emploie de moins en moins dans son sens premier de «se révéler vrai, être reconnu comme vrai». Il est plutôt employé dans son nouveau sens : «se révéler, apparaître». Dans ce sens, le verbe se construit avec un attribut. Il est donc tout à fait correct de dire : le projet s'est avéré une réussite, la rumeur s'est avérée fausse, l'allégation s'est avérée vraie.
