A disease caused by Anaplasma spp. In cattle it is a chronic, often remitting disease characterized by fever, jaundice, emaciation and anaemia, but never haemoglobinuria. It is transmitted by a number of insect vectors, especially ticks. In sheep and goats the disease is subclinical.

Con el nombre vulgar de "tristeza" de los bovinos se denomina en nuestro país a la babesiosis y a la anaplasmosis. Estas enfermedades tienen algunas características comunes, sin embargo son tres afecciones diferentes entre sí. [...] La anaplasmosis es causada por un microorganismo denominado Anaplasma marginale. Tanto las Babesia como el Anaplasma viven y se desarrollan dentro de los glóbulos rojos de la sangre, causando su destrucción.
