The [Y2K] problem arises from a simple, yet egregious error. Le problème du changement de date à l'an 2000 découle de l'utilisation habituelle de champs de dates à deux chiffres seulement. Cette façon de faire avait été adoptée dans le passé pour préserver l'espace disque et l'espace mémoire, alors coûteux. Les spécialistes du développement de programmes n'avaient pas prévu, apparemment, que les applications s'étendent au-delà de l'an 2000.
