Ni protogène, ni protophile (dans une situation donnée). En présence d'acides ou de bases de Brönsted extrêmement forts, des solvants normalement aprotiques peuvent accepter ou perdre un proton. Par exemple, l'acétonitrile est le plus souvent un solvant aprotique mais, il est protophile en présence d'acide sulfurique concentré et protogène en présence de tert-butylate de potassium.
