Les [signes] de l'arpège sont nombreux : trait transversal sur la queue de la note inférieure ou supérieure, l'indication «arpeggio», arc de cercle devant l'accord, trait vertical ondulé accolé à l'accord et terminé (ou non) par un crochet dessiné à la base ou au sommet, suivant le sens (ascendant ou descendant) à donner à l'arpègement; c'est ce dernier usage qui semble avoir prévalu, hormis le crochet.
