L'arthroscopie est effectuée en salle d'opération, sous anesthésie générale ou péridurale. L'arthroscope est un tube de quelques millimètres de diamètre, muni d'un système optique et d'un système d'éclairage; il est couplé à une caméra vidéo miniaturisée, elle-même reliée à un écran de télévision.
