L'alcoolisme bêta comporte une alcoolisation excessive, régulière et de longue durée au cours de laquelle surviennent des complications somatiques (polynévrites, gastrites, cyrrhoses) sans qu'il y ait de dépendance par rapport à l'alcool. Les sujets sont des consommateurs très tolérants, choisissant plutôt des boissons fermentées de faible degré alcoolique. Souvent, l'alcoolisme bêta précède l'alcoolisme delta.
