Ce terme désigne, dans le système INFORM, chaque ensemble expéditeur-marchandise-destination que le CN a constitué pour fins de statistiques. Il peut ainsi s'agir : d'un expéditeur (Quintet Mines) - d'une marchandise (charbon) - d'une destination (Prince-Rupert), ou encore : de plusieurs expéditeurs, plusieurs marchandises - une destination. En 1988, il existait au CN environ 3000 de ces combinaisons ou "block of traffic". Solution formée sur le modèle de block mileage - unité milliaire déjà en vigueur dans le système INFORM.
