The prankster's water bomb has matured into a new tool for fighting fires. Instead of low-flying helicopters and small planes pouring water over hot spots, Boeing has devised a way to use its C-17 military transports to bombard blazes with beach ball-size containers loaded with water or fire retardant. One advantage of using the multifaceted, biodegradable bombs is that they could be dropped with high precision, striking the core of the fire. Some 2800 containers bursting evenly at the same moment would be more effective than showering water from above. A fully loaded C-17 could deliver 144,000 pounds of liquid in one spot or in several locations. Conventional "firebombers" usually empty an entire load in a single run. 2, record 1, English, - water%20bomb
