IAS (International Adoption Services) was formerly the National Adoption Desk, developed in 1975 and housed in the former department of Health and Welfare Canada. It was transferred, along with other children's social policy initiatives, to Human Resources Development Canada in the mid-1990's when it was created. IAS (International Adoption Services) works with foreign governments, other federal departments, provinces and territories. Provinces and territories all have their own legislation governing adoptions, and under this legislation carry out case management of individual adoptions. IAS also acts as the Federal Central Authority for the Government of Canada in accordance with the Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption. 4, record 1, English, - Intercountry%20Adoption%20Services

Les SAI (Services d'adoption internationale) ont vu le jour en 1975, sous le nom de Bureau national d'adoption, qui relevait de l'ancien ministère Santé et Bien-être social Canada. Au milieu des années 1990, le Bureau et d'autres services responsables des politiques sociales relatives à l'enfance ont été transférés à Développement des ressources humaines Canada, lors de la création de ce ministère. Les SAI (Services d'adoption internationale) collaborent avec les gouvernements étrangers, les autres ministères fédéraux, les provinces et les territoires. Les provinces et territoires ont leurs propres mesures législatives régissant les adoptions et sous cette législation, effectuent la gestion des caisses d'adoption.
