Communication Canada managed a variety of government-wide GOL projects. Because the department was dissolved on 31 March 2004, Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), Government Information Services Branch (GISB) is now responsible for these projects.

This organization groups together the communications coordination activities of Public Works and Government Services Canada with those of the Canada Information Office. This change [was] effective September 1, 2001 ... Communication Canada [oversees] the amalgamation of such communications programs as 1 800 O-Canada, the Canada Web site, sponsorships, government publications, fairs and exhibits, citizen-focussed information campaigns, communications research and community outreach program.
